Two disasters, one big march

Mr. Herbert Mensah, founder of May 9th Remembered, turned the 15th anniversary of that tragic and tearful day into an international occasion by sponsoring two family members of the 2001 Ellis Park victims to share their sorrows with those of family members in Ghana.
Mr. Herbert Mensah, founder of ‘May 9th Remembered’, expressed his gratitude to all sponsors, organisers and participants that formed part of the 2016 May 9th Remembered programme with a full page announcement in the newspapers today.
The Ghana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) showed solidarity with the families of the 2001 May 9th Stadium Disaster victims by turning up in their numbers at the annual May 9th Remembered street march in Kumasi, Ghana.
The May 9th Zongo Cup Memorial Tournament ended on a high note in Kumasi, Ghana when Accra based Madina Ashley Botwe United beat Kumasi team Aboabo Number Two by 5 goals to 4 in a penalty shootout after a 2 – 2 draw.

With the help of City Press in South Africa two children who are victims of the 2001 Ellis Park stadium disaster have joined Mr. Herbert Mensah and the ‘May 9th Remembered organising team’ for the 2016 remembrance activities in Kumasi.
A select side from Aboabo Number One lifted the May 9 trophy and a cash prize of GH¢1000 after triumphing 5-3 on penalties against Aboabo Number 2 during Saturday’s grand finale of the 2015 May 9 Football Gala in Kumasi.
Thousands of people in the Ashanti regional capital and beyond took to the streets of Kumasi for a walk in remembrance of victims of the Accra sports stadium soccer disaster 14 years ago that resulted in the death of 126 soccer fans.
